ECK were appointed by Vital Energi to deliver specialist HDPE pipework installations forming a key part of the Liverpool Waters Energy Centre — the hub of the Mersey Heat Network. The low-carbon scheme uses one of the UK’s largest water-source heat pumps to supply sustainable heat across the Liverpool waterfront via a 6km district heating network.
ECK supplied and installed 400mm SDR17 HDPE pipework for the water abstraction system, a 355mm HDPE gas main, and all associated 400mm and 355mm internal HDPE process pipework within the energy centre.
All works were fully welded, tested and delivered in line with Vital Energi’s stringent safety and performance standards.Following the successful completion of the pipework package, ECK were invited to extend their scope on the project. Additional works included external concrete slab construction, new road access formation, vehicular ramp installation, internal blockwork and hard landscaping. This demonstrated ECK’s ability to integrate mechanical, civil and building activities seamlessly within a live major infrastructure scheme.
ECK contributed to the successful delivery of one of the UK’s most forward-thinking renewable energy projects. The completed installations now form a critical part of the Mersey Heat Network’s core infrastructure, supporting long-term sustainable heat generation for future Liverpool Waters developments. Our multidisciplinary capability, responsive management and technical precision ensured works were delivered safely, efficiently and to specification.
