ECK Civil Engineering Ltd supplied and installed a new 500mm SDR11 HDPE fire main system at the Shotton Paper Mill facility in Deeside. The works formed part of Eren Holdings’ £1 billion redevelopment of the former UPM site, delivering critical fire protection infrastructure for expanded operational capacity.
ECK provided a full supply and installation package including over 2,900m of HDPE pipe across multiple diameters, valves, ductile iron risers, and fire hydrants. Welding was completed using ECK’s fully automatic Bushranger 630mm pipe welder, with all works pressure tested and commissioned to meet fire system standards within a live industrial environment.
The HDPE fire main network was delivered on schedule and within budget, achieving all performance and pressure criteria. The system now provides a robust, low-maintenance and high-capacity fire protection solution for the site’s future operations.
