Loch Insh Outfall Pipe

ECK Civil Engineering were asked to supply, weld and strategically sink a new outfall pipe to the bottom of Loch Insh in Scotland.

ECK procured 240m of 180mm sdr 11 HDPE pipe, it was delivered to site in 6m lengths due to limited access; when safely delivered it was butt fusion welded into a 240m length. It was then floated across Loch Insh with the use of an excavator and  boat. Specially designed pipe weights were added to allow the new length of HDPE pipe to slowly sink to the bottom of the Loch; finally a connection to existing pvc pipe was made via a mechanical coupling.
